Senator Christopher “Kip” Bateman (R- 16) today issued the following statement regarding the passing of Assemblyman Peter Biondi:

“It is hard to imagine serving the people of the 16th District without Peter Biondi by my side.  Pete was more than a great legislator, he was a good friend.  He always put service to our constituents ahead of politics and partisanship, and constantly reminded us that legislators could disagree in the State House while maintaining respect for one another.  His presence will be sorely missed in all of our lives, and my thoughts and prayers go out to the Biondi family.”

Nearly a Week After Snow Storm, Many Residents Remain Without Power

Senator Kip Bateman (R-16) has called for hearings to investigate why thousands of JCP&L customers remain without power nearly a week after service was disrupted by the October 29 snow storm that hit New Jersey. According to information released by JCP&L on Friday, nearly 15,000 of its customers remain in the dark six days after the storm passed.

“Following the lengthy outages that plagued thousands of state residents as a result of Hurricane Irene in August, New Jersey utilities had pledged to develop better response plans for future storms,” said Bateman. “With thousands of JCP&L customers still in the dark nearly a week after the season’s first snow storm, it appears that at least one utility has failed to respond as customers were promised. I intend to make sure that we find out why.”

The following editorial by Senator Christopher “Kip” Bateman (R-16) appeared in the Courier News on May 31, 2011:

In New Jersey’s 31 poorest school districts, the so-called “Abbott” districts, New Jersey spends more per pupil than anywhere in the state and almost anywhere in America- $4 billion in total for less than 25% of the state’s student population.

It all started thirty years ago, when the New Jersey Supreme Court ordered that increased funding for poor districts be used as a remedy for poor graduation rates and student outcomes among disadvantaged kids.

Senator Christopher “Kip” Bateman (R-Somerset/Morris) issued the following statement today after the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled that an additional $500 million must be spent on chronically failing urban school districts:

“We need to wrest control of education funding from the courts, which have continuously decided the only way to lift up our needy children is to pump vast sums of money into urban districts with little or no accountability for results. This process diverts resources from equally deserving students in other districts, as well as overburdens state taxpayers.
